Good to know: Château Gazin is a prestigious estate located in the heart of Pomerol, renowned for its exceptional terroir of blue clay and gravel soils shared with neighboring icons like Petrus. Owned by the Bailliencourt dit Courcols family for five generations, the 26-hectare vineyard lies on a single contiguous plot and is planted predominantly to Merlot, with smaller portions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Committed to traditional methods, the grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted, fermented in concrete vats, and aged for 18 months in around 50% new French oak. The resulting wines are known for their purity, refined tannins, and mineral elegance—offering a harmonious blend of power and finesse with impressive aging potential. Often considered an “unofficial great growth” of Pomerol, Château Gazin remains a benchmark for quality and value in the appellation.

Château Gazin 2015 is a standout vintage from this esteemed Pomerol estate, composed of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. It offers an expressive bouquet of red and black fruits, complemented by layers of truffle, dark chocolate, smoke, and hints of tobacco. I first visited without notice to scout the venue for a business meeting, and they kindly showed me around. This time, I returned for a private dinner.

Communication via WhatsApp was seamless and friendly, allowing us to pre-order the Gambas al Ajillo and Cochinillo. The Gambas was cooked to perfection with amazing flavor, and the Cochinillo was a masterpiece—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside.
