Good to
know: A historical icon in Bordeaux's Saint Julien sub region, there
is ample evidence that prove that grapes have been planted in the vineyards of
Chateau Lagrange as early as the middle ages. In recent history, the estate has
been classified as a Third Growth and is renowned mainly for the masculinity
and aging potential of their wines.
Today,
the estate produces several noteworthy wines under their portfolio. Their
flagship which is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend, aged for at least 2
years is new French oak barrels. Their second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange
(first produced in 1985), also a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend, aged for at
least 1 year in oak. Both of are known as the primary wines of the estate.
Apart from these 2, Chateau Lagrange also produces Le Haut-Médoc de Lagrange
which is a more even blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot tending to be a
slightly softer wine compared to their primary wines. Lastly, they produce a
white wine called Les Arums de Lagrange, a Sauvignon Blanc dominant blend
fermented in French oak barrels, providing a somewhat spicier and more rounded
style of Bordeaux white.
Remarkably, the Chateau Lagrange 2009 vintage diverges from the extreme weather conditions seen in years past, such as the scorching heat of 2003 or the aridity of 2002 and 2005. Instead, this year saw a timely mix of rainfall and warmth that catered perfectly to the vine's growth cycle. The climatic conditions in August, September, and October were exceptional, with the last days of September and the beginning of October standing out as the highlight.
When it comes to tasting notes, prepare to be dazzled by the abundance of blackberry, blackcurrant, and liquorice aromas. The powerful tannins characteristic of Saint Julien wines are present, along with a rich texture that seamlessly integrates cedar and truffle notes. This wine strikes a perfect balance, offering a tasting experience with a remarkably wide window for enjoyment. Don't miss out on this exquisite vintage that showcases the best of what Chateau Lagrange has to offer.

It was a weekday when we went there so it was not crowded. The interiors were nicely done and an ideal for place to have a good discussion. We love the caviar bar and their cocktail offerings. Food was above average although can still be improved. We had the pork ribs, spicy sausage, pork croquet, and fish triperones(?).
