Good To Know: Producing one of the world's most expensive and highly sought after wines that also defy time, Chateau Latour is one of the leading wineries in the world, both in history and in modern times. Occupied and in operation since 1331, the site formerly functioned as a fort and garrison, tasked with guarding the estuary. Though the original tower, which is also featured on the label, no longer exists, it was formerly designed as a pigeon roost and built around the early 17th century.

Beginning its operation as a winery under the de Segur name, Chateau Latour was also connected to Mouton and Calon Segur around the 1670's and lasted roughly 300 years until the French Revolution. After that era, Latour's holdings were split and was only reunited in 1841. Today, Chateau Latour is owned by Francois Pinault and is part of Groupe Artemis.

Château Latour 2001 is a distinguished First Growth Bordeaux from Pauillac, crafted predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Deep ruby in color, it reveals an expressive bouquet of blackcurrant, dark cherry, graphite, vanilla, crushed stone, and truffle. The palate is full-bodied yet refined, featuring polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and complex layers of cassis, blackberry, tobacco, cedar, and mineral undertones. Despite its structure and depth, this vintage is remarkably approachable today with decanting, while still offering excellent aging potential. It stands as a classic example of Latour’s powerful yet elegant style.
