Good to know: One of the top estates in Saint-Estephe, Chateau Montrose was classified 2eme Grand Cru Classe or Second Growth by the 1855 Classification. Its close proximity to water via the Gironde river, has a moderating effect to both intense cold and extreme heat. The abundance of pebbles in the soil retain daytime warmth as night covers the vineyards, providing substantial aid to the ripening of the grapes.
The 2014 La Dame de Montrose experienced mild winter weather with temperatures mostly above freezing. A significant amount of rain fell until May, replenishing water reserves in the soil. Spring conditions were favorable for the vine cycle, with rapid and uniform vegetation growth in April and even flowering on June 5th. July was cooler than usual, leading to a delayed veraison in a wet August. The vine cycle picked up again in late August with hot and dry weather until mid-October. High temperatures, abundant sunshine, and hydric stress aided in the even ripening of the grapes. A timely rainfall of 20 mm on September 17th and 18th helped achieve perfect balance.
The harvest in mid-September began smoothly with fine weather and cool nights, resulting in a crop of perfect health. While quality was ensured, pickers meticulously went through certain parcels four to six times in search of perfect ripeness. In the winery, dense and deep colors emerged swiftly during pumping-over, showcasing a slight elevation in alcohol levels but maintaining a good balance. Tastings conducted at the end of the maceration period indicated the wines would be of excellent quality. Each parcel's wines were kept separate during the run-off process, allowing for careful selection and potential blending opportunities with press wines in barrels.
Experience the La Dame de Montrose 2014. Indulge in the delightful crimson hue of this exquisite wine. Allow the delicate aromas of spice and ripe fruit to captivate your senses from the very first sip. Experience a fresh, elegant, and silky initial taste, supported by a compelling tannic structure. The mid-palate is rich, rounded, and velvety, leading seamlessly to a lingering finish accompanied by subtle hints of liquorice. Embrace the luxurious journey that is the La Dame de Montrose 2014.

Kat WynnTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great wine bar. They offer a wide selection of wine & the tapas are delicious. I didn't think I'd enjoy bread with olive oil as much as I did! Gambas, patè & croquettes were also delicious. We went at around 2pm and it was quiet - we just wanted something light and available. I believe they offer a variety of meats that has to be pre ordered? We would love to come back. Also, very good service. Peter LacTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Txanton offers a focused and authentic take on Spanish dining, grounded in its role as a jamonería and its clear respect for quality produce and tradition. At the heart of the menu is the jamón. The jamón tasting menu is particularly impressive, presenting six different varieties that span the full spectrum of cured ham, each one expertly prepared and deeply flavourful. The supporting dishes are equally strong, including excellent gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimps), a rich and comforting arroz cremoso con frutos de mar (seafood creamy rice), and bold chorizo picante a la brasa (spicy chorizo) with smoky depth. Dessert is distinctive and well judged, with the crema de queso (cream cheese) paired beautifully with PX wine, raisins, and a Tempranillo cookie. Service is relaxed and courteous, with staff providing thoughtful recommendations and attentive care throughout. The setting is welcoming and unpretentious, echoing the atmosphere of a traditional Spanish dining room - ideal for sharing plates, conversation, and good wine. Txanton succeeds in delivering a genuine Spanish experience, excelling in its jamón while offering a consistently well-executed menu.
