Good to know Domaine Economou is one of the most sought after producers of Greece for its artisanal wines. Yiannis Economu, the outstanding wine maker has an oenology degree from Milan. He had years of work in Germany, Bordeaux (Chateau Margaux) and Piedmont under the guidance of Nebbiolo maestros. He then returned to Crete, Greece in 1994 where Domaine Economou is now rooted.

Domaine Economou PGI Crete Mirabello is a new wine to the Domaine Economou range. A first release of Mirabello made from a blend of Liatiko and Mandilari. A wine profile that reminds you of Barolo with deep flavour and silky tannins. It has notes of ripe dark and red cherry, soft wood smoke and herbs.

Domaine Economou Oikonomoy Mirabello PGI 2011 is a rare and expressive red wine from Crete, crafted from a blend of 60% Liatiko and 40% Mandilaria grown on the limestone-rich Ziros plateau. Made from ungrafted old vines and following natural winemaking methods—including spontaneous fermentation and extended aging in used oak—this wine offers a pale garnet hue with complex aromas of dried cherry, red currant, cedar, and warm spices like clove and nutmeg. On the palate, it is medium-bodied yet intensely flavorful, with bright acidity, fine tannins, and savory herbal notes that lead to a long, elegant finish. A true reflection of Yiannis Economou’s commitment to tradition, terroir, and minimal intervention.
