Good to Know: Established in the mid-2000s by Enrique Basarte and Elisa Ucar, natives of Pamplona, Domaine Lupier emerged as a dedicated guardian of Navarra’s heritage, particularly its ancient Garnacha vines in the San Martín de Unx region. Quietly but steadily, it has garnered recognition across Spain for its distinctively floral, juicy, and succulent Garnacha wines, often described as ‘Atlantic’ in character.
Spanning seventeen hectares, with the majority of its vines tracing back to 1903, Domaine Lupier found a fitting partner in Raúl Pérez. His quest for a premier Garnacha source culminated in his acquisition of the estate last year. Leveraging our unique position as the national importer for Raúl’s flagship estate in Bierzo, Skurnik Wines eagerly introduces Domaines Lupier to a broader audience.
Nestled across various parcels ranging from 400m to 750m above sea level, the estate boasts possibly the oldest vines in San Martín de Unx. While not officially certified, the 100% head-pruned, dry-farmed bushvines are meticulously tended in an organic manner, yielding fruit that is impeccably ripe yet refreshingly balanced.
The estate produces two notable cuvées: ‘El Terroir,’ a delightful blend reflecting the estate’s character, and ‘La Dama,’ a remarkable single-parcel expression sourced from the highest elevations. Both wines undergo fermentation in a mix of tanks and open-top barrels with some stem inclusion. They then mature in a selection of larger French barrels ranging from 400 to 1500 liters, with approximately 10% of new cooperage introduced annually. (Although crafted by Enrique and Elisa in 2018, these wines were held in tank since early 2020 awaiting final blending, which was executed by Raúl Pérez late last year.)

It was a weekday when we went there so it was not crowded. The interiors were nicely done and an ideal for place to have a good discussion. We love the caviar bar and their cocktail offerings. Food was above average although can still be improved. We had the pork ribs, spicy sausage, pork croquet, and fish triperones(?).
