Good to Know: Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno started to produce wines to serve tables and hungry patrons at the Ristorante dell’Angelo in La Morra back in 1936. Their family has long cultivated grapevines for generations. The wine produced by the Cogno family performed more than they expected. It not only served their restaurant patrons but also distinguished itself as an excellent wine.

This success brought Elvio Cogno to leave the restaurant business to produce wines in full time. A business partner supported this decision as his wine showed great reputation. A collaboration between Cogno and the Marcarini winery began as this winery have been managing splendid vineyards in Brunate in the town of La Morra. There, they cultivated Nebbiolo for Barolo.

Elvio’s work pushed towards a goal of producing wine of higher quality and developing the potential of wines in Langhe.

Now the hills of the vineyard in Novello have become world-renowned for their history and excellence recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage.

Following Elvio Cogno, Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore now carries the legacy between four generations of winemakers and vine growers.

Elvio Cogno Barolo Cascina Nuova is for customers who are curious for even more immediate understanding of Barolo. The wine has a bright garnet red color and orange tints. It is pleasing and immediate, it offers scents of flowers and light, delicate spices. The mouth is agreeably rounded, juicy and fresh, with the right balance of pleasantness and elegance. It has a harmonious aftertaste with a mineral and aromatic finish.

Best served with tasty meat dishes such as braised and roast beef, game, mature cheeses.

Elvio Cogno Barolo Cascina Nuova 2020 is a refined expression of Barolo from the Novello commune. Crafted solely from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the estate’s younger vineyards of the Ravera cru, the wine is carefully aged in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by further bottle maturation. It presents a beautifully balanced profile that melds red berries, rose petals, sandalwood, and subtle earthy undertones. With a medium-bodied structure, the wine features finely textured tannins, a vibrant acidity, and a long, persistent finish. I didn't think I'd enjoy bread with olive oil as much as I did! Gambas, patè & croquettes were also delicious. We went at around 2pm and it was quiet - we just wanted something light and available.
