Good to Know: Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno started to produce wines to serve tables and hungry patrons at the Ristorante dell’Angelo in La Morra back in 1936. Their family has long cultivated grapevines for generations. The wine produced by the Cogno family performed more than they expected. It not only served their restaurant patrons but also distinguished itself as an excellent wine.

This success brought Elvio Cogno to leave the restaurant business to produce wines in full time. A business partner supported this decision as his wine showed great reputation. A collaboration between Cogno and the Marcarini winery began as this winery have been managing splendid vineyards in Brunate in the town of La Morra. There, they cultivated Nebbiolo for Barolo.

Elvio’s work pushed towards a goal of producing wine of higher quality and developing the potential of wines in Langhe.

Now the hills of the vineyard in Novello have become world-renowned for their history and excellence recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage.

Following Elvio Cogno, Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore now carries the legacy between four generations of winemakers and vine growers.

Elvio Cogno Montegrilli Langhe Rosso with Nebbiolo variety has always been one of the most beautiful grapes of Langhe. It has a deep ruby red in color with a slight orange edge. A well balanced aroma and a pleasant blend of floral, fruity and soft spicy scents with a sapid finish of rose and violet. A fresh lively bouquet with harmonious tannins, alcohol with a balanced acidity. It is soft, elegant and full-bodied with a long aftertaste. Aroma of freshly macerated red berries, raspberry and redcurrant.

Best served with roasts, hard/soft or well-aged cheeses. Surprisingly good with fresh fish and raw tuna tartare.
