Good to Know: Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno started to produce wines to serve tables and hungry patrons at the Ristorante dell’Angelo in La Morra back in 1936. Their family has long cultivated grapevines for generations. The wine produced by the Cogno family performed more than they expected. It not only served their restaurant patrons but also distinguished itself as an excellent wine.

This success brought Elvio Cogno to leave the restaurant business to produce wines in full time. A business partner supported this decision as his wine showed great reputation. A collaboration between Cogno and the Marcarini winery began as this winery have been managing splendid vineyards in Brunate in the town of La Morra. There, they cultivated Nebbiolo for Barolo.

Elvio’s work pushed towards a goal of producing wine of higher quality and developing the potential of wines in Langhe.

Now the hills of the vineyard in Novello have become world-renowned for their history and excellence recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage.

Following Elvio Cogno, Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore now carries the legacy between four generations of winemakers and vine growers.

Elvio Cogno Moscato d'Asti is on the sweeter side. This wine has a delightful aroma of different flavors and silky texture. A hint of lychee and pear with the sweetness of honey and herb aromas.

Best paired with Cheddar and Gruyère, nutty and savory cheeses.

Elvio Cogno Moscato d’Asti DOCG 2023 is a beautifully aromatic and delicately sweet sparkling wine made from 100% Moscato Bianco di Canelli grapes grown in the hills of Asti. Crafted using the Charmat method, fermentation is halted early to preserve natural sweetness and low alcohol, resulting in a light-bodied wine with a gentle effervescence and around 5% ABV. The bouquet is vibrant and floral, offering notes of white peach, apricot, orange blossom, honey, and fresh herbs like sage and rosemary. On the palate, it is sweet yet balanced by bright acidity, with flavors of lychee, citrus zest, and ripe grapes, finishing clean and refreshing. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with fruit-based desserts, blue cheese, or lightly spiced dishes, this Moscato d’Asti is a refined and elegant expression of the style, perfect for casual enjoyment or celebratory moments.

I first visited without notice to scout the venue for a business meeting, and they kindly showed me around. This time, I returned for a private dinner.

Communication via WhatsApp was seamless and friendly, allowing us to pre-order the Gambas al Ajillo and Cochinillo. The Gambas was cooked to perfection with amazing flavor, and the Cochinillo was a masterpiece—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside.
