Oro del Desierto Lechin de Granada Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) 500ml
Producer: Oro del Desierto
Country / Region: Spain / Almeria, Desierto de Tabernas, Finca el vicario,
Date company was established: 1999
Olive Variety: Lechin de Granada
Format: 500ml
Servings: We recommend using it especially for salted fish, anchovies, tomato salads, white meats, poultry and desserts. It is a local variety from Almeria and the southwest of Spain. Very hard to find out of this area not many companies produce it separate and much less under organic EU laws like Oro del Desierto. The production is so limited!
Good to know: Oro del Desierto Lechin de Granda comes from Single estate and its limited production Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, produced exclusively from lechin olives from early harvest in “El Vicario” "Sierra Bermeja" and "el cortijillo de las pencas" estates. Olive grows between 80 and 250 years, planted in 10 x 10m, 30% with drip irrigation system, 70% without irrigation.
Intense gold colour, clean and filtered. In nose, its intense, fruity, wide and powerful, notes of tomato, apple and banana. Also almonds and mind touches in less intensity. Very complex and well balanced. In mouth it has soft and fruity, well balance, remember the green olives and medium ripe fruits like apples. It has soft bitterness and piquant end which appears early and goes off fast. Pleasant aftertaste which reminds fresh vegetables.
The dream of this small company was to make their own extra virgin olive oil and market it under their own brand in order to obtain a high quality product and added value. Finally they decided to acquire an old oil mill that dated back to 1925, which was unique in Almería and had been abandoned since the 1970s.

It was a weekday when we went there so it was not crowded. The interiors were nicely done and an ideal for place to have a good discussion. We love the caviar bar and their cocktail offerings. Food was above average although can still be improved. We had the pork ribs, spicy sausage, pork croquet, and fish triperones(?).
