Good To Know: Teso La Monja was founded by Sierra Cantabria's Eguren family soon after the establishment of the now famous Bodegas Numanthia in Toro. Their goal was to revive and promote one of Spain's most under the radar wine regions, Toro, as well as to harness the full potential of Tempranillo's original clone which has remained unharmed during the phylloxera wave and remains on ungrafted vines.
The Teso La Monja Victorino 2010 is a powerful yet elegant vintage. Having matured nicely in our cellars, the 2010's aroma boasts gorgeous black fruit notes and myriad of both spice and earthy nuances such as nutmeg, granite and lavender. The palate has aged with amazing complexity adding a nice touch of dark chocolate and vanilla undertones beneath notes of figs and sweet tobacco. The finish remains vigorous and youthful with an elegant freshness as well as mellowed, silk light tannins that carry afternotes of dried blueberries and white pepper spice.
Founded in 2007 after the Eguren brothers sold their shares from Bodegas Numanthia, Teso La Monja is located in the northernmost part of the Toro D.O. The particular expression of the original Tempranillo clone combined with both ungrafted roots and high proportion of rounded stones in the vineyards, is incredibly unique to that of Rioja and Ribera del Duero. The wines produced by Teso La Monja showcase a more elegant and silky style of Tempranillo, some might even say more refined and somewhat feminine compared to those from their more popular counterparts.

Kat WynnTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great wine bar. They offer a wide selection of wine & the tapas are delicious. I didn't think I'd enjoy bread with olive oil as much as I did! Gambas, patè & croquettes were also delicious. We went at around 2pm and it was quiet - we just wanted something light and available. I believe they offer a variety of meats that has to be pre ordered? We would love to come back. Also, very good service. Peter LacTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Txanton offers a focused and authentic take on Spanish dining, grounded in its role as a jamonería and its clear respect for quality produce and tradition. At the heart of the menu is the jamón. The jamón tasting menu is particularly impressive, presenting six different varieties that span the full spectrum of cured ham, each one expertly prepared and deeply flavourful. The supporting dishes are equally strong, including excellent gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimps), a rich and comforting arroz cremoso con frutos de mar (seafood creamy rice), and bold chorizo picante a la brasa (spicy chorizo) with smoky depth. Dessert is distinctive and well judged, with the crema de queso (cream cheese) paired beautifully with PX wine, raisins, and a Tempranillo cookie. Service is relaxed and courteous, with staff providing thoughtful recommendations and attentive care throughout. The setting is welcoming and unpretentious, echoing the atmosphere of a traditional Spanish dining room - ideal for sharing plates, conversation, and good wine. Txanton succeeds in delivering a genuine Spanish experience, excelling in its jamón while offering a consistently well-executed menu.
