Good to Know: Vosne-Romanée is a wine on the robust side, offering hues that sway from the refreshing clarity of ruby to the intrigue of dark tulip deepening to an intense purple. The bouquet is a combination of ripened fruit mixed with a spicy backdrop, featuring notes of strawberry, blueberry, and blackcurrant. Its taste is characterized by the pure luxury and sophistication of Vosne-Romanée, striking a balance between richness and tannins, and texture and structure. With its vibrant onset, it's evident that this is a wine meant to be aged and appreciated over time.
The richness and spice, along with the pronounced tannins, make this wine perfect for dishes with hearty meats possessing well-defined fibers, which the wine can confidently complement and underscore. Yet, more unconventional pairings, like a spicy chicken couscous or a pan-seared foie gras, can also lead to an unexpected and delightful discovery.
The name 'Vosne' or 'Vaona' hails from the Gallic term 'wadana,' meaning water. This is fitting since a significant source in the region alimenting all surrounding villages originates from Vosne-Romanée. 'Romanée', on the other hand, pays homage to the Romans, who are credited for introducing vine cultivation to Burgundy.
