Good to Know: Perez Barquero is a winery located in Montilla, a southern region of Andalucia in Spain. The winery specializes in producing a variety of wines and brandies, all of which are representative of the Montilla-Moriles denomination.

Established in 1905 by three brothers named José, Julián, and Emilio Pérez Barquero, the estate has a long-standing history. The main solera aging system was implemented 50 years after its founding, but there is also a "foundation" solera from 1905 that still exists. Both collections of wines are still being released by the winery.

In 1985, the company was acquired by the Córdoba, Ruz, and Gracia families, a local conglomerate. With Rafael Córdoba García currently leading the winery, the Córdoba family holds the majority of the shares. During the following two decades, the winery placed great emphasis on expanding its export activities.

Offering a diverse range of brands and wine styles, Perez Barquero produces dry, sweet, and fortified wines, reminiscent of the sherry-style. These wines are primarily crafted from the local Pedro Ximenez grape, which is a widely-used and respected variety.

The company's portfolio includes various esteemed brands such as Gran Barquero, 1955 Soleras Cincuentenario, 1905 Soleras Fundacionales, La Cañada, Los Amigos, and Monte Cristo. Additionally, a range of brandies, spirits (mainly Rum), vinegars, and Vermouth are also offered by the company.

The non-vintage Pérez Barquero 'Los Amigos' Fino offers a brilliant, refreshing introduction to the world of traditional Andalusian wines, distinctly representing the unique terroir of the Montilla-Moriles region. Unlike traditional Sherries from Jerez, this exceptional Fino is crafted from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes and is entirely unfortified, naturally achieving its 15% alcohol by volume thanks to the region's climate. Aged biologically under a velo de flor for three to four years within a traditional criaderas and soleras system in American oak casks, it captures a perfect balance of youthful vibrancy and complex maturation without adhering to a single vintage. In the glass, it reveals a pale yellow robe and a pleasantly strong bouquet of toasted wood, crushed almonds, fresh apple, and delicate saline flor. On the palate, it is exceptionally light, dry, and balanced, delivering a smooth, refreshing finish accented by a rush of creamy hazelnuts and a bright, sneaky acidity. Because of its crisp, saline character and approachable freshness, this Fino demands lively, palate-awakening dishes; it pairs beautifully with an array of classic tapas, fresh seafood, shellfish, briny olives, and light appetizers.
