The Kasumi Damascus series boasts a construction of 32 layers of Damascus steel, featuring an ultra hard steel middle layer. This central layer, made of VG-10 high carbon steel, serves as the cutting edge, offering exceptional durability and ease of sharpening. With a 15-degree bevel angle, these knives deliver an incredibly sharp edge comparable to the finest Japanese blades. Additionally, the knives are furnished with meticulously crafted, laminated wooden handles that fit snugly onto the tang, striking a balance between medium weight and exceptionally hard blades.
Kasumi excels in crafting knives using VG-10, a top-quality stainless steel. They have now introduced a 3-ply steel knife with an inner core encased between two outer layers of SUS410 stainless steel. This design safeguards the delicate VG-10 against rust and impact damage.

Damascus steel is the forged steel used for the blades of swords. It originated in the Near East, where it was crafted from ingots of carbon steel imported from Southern India or produced in centers such as Sri Lanka or Khorasan, Iran. These swords are known for their distinctive patterns of banding and mottling, resembling flowing water, sometimes forming a “ladder” or “rose” pattern. Damascus steel blades were renowned for their toughness, resistance to shattering, and ability to be honed to a sharp, resilient edge.
