Good to Know: Domaine Albert Mann is a renowned family-run estate in Wettolsheim, Alsace, formed from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families, with winemaking roots dating back to the 17th century. Today, brothers Maurice and Jacky Barthelmé lead the domaine, which spans around 25 hectares, including several prestigious Grand Cru vineyards. Fully certified organic and biodynamic, the estate emphasizes soil health, biodiversity, and minimal intervention to produce pure, terroir-driven wines. Known for its exceptional Rieslings, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and elegant Pinot Noirs, Albert Mann is widely regarded as one of Alsace’s benchmark producers, earning critical acclaim for its precision, balance, and commitment to sustainable viticulture.

The Albert Mann Pinot Noir Clos de la Faille 2023 is a single-vineyard Alsatian red sourced from a prized, biodynamically farmed 1-hectare monopole in Wintzenheim. Situated on a distinct geological fault line, the vineyard’s soil is a complex mosaic of pink Vosges sandstone, quartz, and iron-rich limestone, which imparts a signature mineral tension to the wine. The 2023 growing season, marked by a warm summer tempered by timely late-season rains, yielded grapes with deep skin maturity and concentrated sugars. Vinified with gentle whole-bunch fermentation and aged in neutral French oak, this vintage expresses a bright ruby profile, fine-grained tannins, and a balanced, moderate alcohol level, culminating in a highly structured, saline finish that mirrors the complexity of Burgundy while retaining its distinct Alsatian identity.
Combining elegance and structure, it pairs beautifully with dishes like mushroom ravioli, veal, or beef, and has the depth to age gracefully over the next several years.
