Good to know: The Dominus Estate harvests the wines from the Napanook vineyard at the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains on the west of Napa Valley in California, USA. The location is special as it has a natural supply of water from its underground ancient riverbeds. This allows the grapevines to develop deeper roots. The place itself has a natural microclimate perfect for the conditions of the crops ideal for winemaking.
The Napanook 2019 vintage displays a vibrant blend of flavors including lilac, boysenberry, licorice, and lively tannins. This wine can be enjoyed while young or aged for several years to enhance its complexity.
The 2019 growing season was marked by a wet winter and spring, as well as varying temperatures. January saw above-average warmth, followed by the coldest February since 1998. April experienced the second warmest temperatures since 2013, while May was uncharacteristically cold and rainy.
An early heatwave in June brought temperatures as high as 102 F, following a chilly May. With saturated soils and warm weather, the vines experienced exuberant shoot growth throughout the summer months. The overall summer temperatures from June to September were consistently higher than historical averages.
