Good To Know: Giacomo Fenocchio is based in Barolo, in Piedmonte region of Italy. It is a family cared for vineyard passed down from five generations. Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Bussia 2021 is a traditionally crafted Barolo from the prestigious Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, showcasing the producer’s signature style of extended maceration and aging in large Slavonian oak casks. Made from Nebbiolo grown on iron-rich, calcareous soils, the wine undergoes a 40-day native yeast fermentation and matures for about 30 months in wood, followed by a year in bottle. It offers a complex nose of wild cherry, pine, mint, cloves, and leather, with underlying notes of roasted coffee and bay leaf. The palate is structured and elegant, featuring firm yet polished tannins, bright acidity, and savory depth, with flavors of dark cherry, raspberry preserve, fennel, and spice. With multiple 94-point scores from top critics, this vintage stands out for its finesse, aromatic precision, and aging potential, promising a graceful evolution well into the 2030s.
