Good to know: Produced under the expert direction of the late Denis Durantou—the visionary winemaker behind Pomerol's legendary Château L'Église-Clinet—Saintem (also written as Saintayme) represents one of the best value hidden gems in Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. Sourced from a dedicated nine-hectare parcel of mature 35-year-old vines in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, the wine benefits from the same uncompromising standards and precision winemaking as Durantou's top Pomerol estates, bringing elite Right Bank craftsmanship to a broader audience.

The 2018 Saintem Saint-Émilion Grand Cru captures the sheer radiance and generous character of a phenomenal Bordeaux vintage. Crafted entirely from 100% Merlot and aged in 30% new French oak, the warm, sun-drenched 2018 growing season allowed the grapes to achieve optimal sugar maturity and deep concentration while retaining vibrant natural acidity. The result is a wine of radiant fruit, remarkable purity, and accessible elegance.
On the nose, it opens with an alluring bouquet of ripe black cherries, plum preserves, and dark cocoa, accented by subtle hints of lavender, cedarwood, and unsmoked cigars. The palate is silky, medium-to-full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, offering plush red and dark pit fruits over soft, velvety tannins and a long, mineral-tinged finish. Its generous structure and fresh profile make it a versatile partner for rich dishes, pairing effortlessly with pan-seared ribeye steak, roast duck, braised beef, crispy roasted pork belly (Lechon), or creamy cheeses like Brie and Manchego.
