Good to Know: Gevrey wines, in their youthful brilliance, exhibit a vibrant ruby hue that transforms into a deep carmine as they age. When young, the spontaneous fragrance of these wines is a symphony of strawberry, blackberry, violet, mignonette, and rose. Aging only deepens their complexity, adding accents of gamey undergrowth to their bouquet and a dash of licorice. Whole and robust, the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation impresses with its firm structure, velvety tannins, and a richness that never fades. Enjoyed young or aged, the wine's true distinction lies in its longevity, making it a fitting selection for exploring various vintages.

Laurent Ponsot’s Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru “En Ergot – Cuvée du Méléze” 2022 is a refined and expressive Premier Cru Pinot Noir from a select parcel in Gevrey-Chambertin. Bottled at 14%, it reveals a mid-ruby color and an aromatic profile of spicy red and dark currants layered with earthy, forest-floor nuances that reflect the character of the Côte de Nuits terroir. The palate is medium-bodied yet richly textured, with focused power, refined tannins, and a long, balanced finish. Elegant and complex, this wine is approachable after a few years of aging, but is best enjoyed between 2028 and 2036 for its full potential.
