Gros is a respected estate based in Pommard, producing expressive Pinot Noir from village, premier cru, and grand cru vineyards across Pommard, Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Vosne-Romanée, and Chambolle-Musigny. Established in 1988 following the division of Domaine Jean Gros, the estate is now led by Anne-Françoise Gros’s children, Caroline and Mathias, with Mathias handling winemaking since 2011. The domaine also incorporates parcels from Domaine Parent, brought in through the marriage of Anne-Françoise and renowned winemaker François Parent. Grapes are hand-harvested, fully destemmed, and fermented after cold maceration in stainless steel tanks, followed by 12 months of aging in oak barrels—ranging from 40% new oak for village wines to 100% for grand crus. All wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, highlighting purity and precision.

The Domaine A.F. Gros Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge 2020 is a refined 100% Pinot Noir that beautifully captures the essence of Burgundy. Sourced from a 1.73-hectare limestone parcel in the commune of Concoeur, this wine showcases a brilliant cherry-red hue with ruby highlights. The nose is vibrant and fruit-forward, offering layers of raspberry, wild strawberry, blackcurrant, and a touch of oak. On the palate, it opens with a lively, delicate attack, unfolding into a structured mid-palate with notes of red berries, licorice, and subtle spice, leading to a long, aromatic finish. Ideal with grilled red meats or mushroom dishes, it’s best served at 15–17°C. Domaine A.F. Gros, founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros and crafted by renowned winemaker François Parent, is celebrated for producing Pinot Noir of elegance and precision, now with the next generation, Caroline and Mathias, continuing the legacy.

I first visited without notice to scout the venue for a business meeting, and they kindly showed me around. This time, I returned for a private dinner.

Communication via WhatsApp was seamless and friendly, allowing us to pre-order the Gambas al Ajillo and Cochinillo. The Gambas was cooked to perfection with amazing flavor, and the Cochinillo was a masterpiece—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside.
