Good to Know: Domaine Henri Germain is a small, family-run estate in Meursault, founded in 1973 by Henri Germain and now led by his son Jean-François and granddaughter Lucie. Renowned for its pure, slow-developing Chardonnay, the domaine cultivates seven hectares of vineyards, producing a focused range of white wines from Meursault—including Premier Cru sites like Les Perrières, Les Charmes, and Les Poruzots—as well as Village wines from lieux-dits such as Le Limozin and Les Chevalières. The estate also crafts rare red wines, including a Meursault Pinot Noir from Clos des Mouches and a Beaune Premier Cru.

The domaine practices organic viticulture (uncertified), maintaining low yields and manual vineyard work. In the cellar, slow fermentations in cold underground caves and extended aging in old barrels (typically for 22 months) contribute to the wines' precision and longevity. Minimal intervention, with no racking and limited fining or filtration, allows for an authentic expression of each terroir.
Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots 2022 is a refined, terroir-driven Chardonnay sourced from a small 0.25-hectare parcel in Poruzots-Dessus, just beneath the esteemed Narvaux slope. The 35-year-old vines grow in clay soils over hard limestone, producing fruit with natural intensity and balance. Hand-harvested and vinified with minimal intervention, the wine undergoes a slow fermentation, little to no bâtonnage, and minimal fining or filtration, then matures for around 22 months in 20–30% new oak. The result is a complex, elegant white wine offering aromas of orchard fruit, citrus, floral notes, hazelnut, and a touch of flinty minerality. On the palate, it is creamy yet vibrant, with a chalky texture and a long, poised finish—showing both finesse and aging potential.
