Good To Know: Domaine Vietti, founded in 1873 by Carlo Vietti in Castiglione Falletto at the heart of Barolo, is one of Piedmont’s most respected wineries. Over generations, especially under the influence of Alfredo Currado in the mid-20th century, Vietti pioneered single-vineyard Barolo and helped revive the nearly extinct Arneis grape. The estate is also known for its Artist Labels, first introduced in 1974, which blend wine and contemporary art. Today, Vietti cultivates over 75 hectares of certified-organic vineyards across Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero, and Colli Tortonesi, crafting terroir-driven wines with a blend of traditional and modern techniques. Since its acquisition by the Krause family in 2016, the estate has expanded its holdings while retaining its commitment to heritage, with Luca Currado and Mario Cordero continuing to shape its winemaking direction. From its gravity-fed cellar beneath a medieval tower to its expression of MGA crus, Vietti remains a benchmark for Barolo and beyond

Vietti Barolo Riserva DOCG 2017 marks the winery’s first release of a Barolo labeled as “Riserva,” made from carefully selected Nebbiolo grapes sourced from high-altitude, east-facing vineyards with calcareous-clay soils. This limited-production wine—around 5,000 bottles—underwent a meticulous vinification process involving both whole-cluster and destemmed fruit, extended maceration, malolactic fermentation in barrel, and approximately 30 months of aging in large oak casks. The result is a Barolo of exceptional depth and complexity, offering aromas of forest floor, black cherry, prune, balsamic notes, and savory spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and textured, with refined tannins, energetic acidity, and a long, elegant finish. This Riserva showcases Vietti’s mastery of terroir expression, with a structure built for aging and a character that balances power with finesse.

Great wine bar. They offer a wide selection of wine & the tapas are delicious. I didn't think I'd enjoy bread with olive oil as much as I did! Gambas, patè & croquettes were also delicious. We went at around 2pm and it was quiet - we just wanted something light and available. I believe they offer a variety of meats that has to be pre ordered? We would love to come back. Also, very good service.

Txanton offers a focused and authentic take on Spanish dining, grounded in its role as a jamonería and its clear respect for quality produce and tradition. At the heart of the menu is the jamón. The jamón tasting menu is particularly impressive, presenting six different varieties that span the full spectrum of cured ham, each one expertly prepared and deeply flavourful. The supporting dishes are equally strong, including excellent gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimps), a rich and comforting arroz cremoso con frutos de mar (seafood creamy rice), and bold chorizo picante a la brasa (spicy chorizo) with smoky depth. Dessert is distinctive and well judged, with the crema de queso (cream cheese) paired beautifully with PX wine, raisins, and a Tempranillo cookie. Service is relaxed and courteous, with staff providing thoughtful recommendations and attentive care throughout. The setting is welcoming and unpretentious, echoing the atmosphere of a traditional Spanish dining room - ideal for sharing plates, conversation, and good wine. Txanton succeeds in delivering a genuine Spanish experience, excelling in its jamón while offering a consistently well-executed menu.
