Good To Know: Giacomo Fenocchio is based in Barolo, in Piedmonte region of Italy. It is a family cared for vineyard passed down from five generations. Now, the current estate is owned and ran by Claudio Fenocchio with his brothers and house winemaker. Making sure to not only maintain but also improve the quality.
Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Castellero 2021 is a poised and structured single-vineyard Barolo from a distinctive site nestled between the famed Bussia and Cannubi crus in the village of Barolo. Made using traditional methods, the wine undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts and a lengthy maceration of around 40 days, followed by over 30 months of aging in large Slavonian oak casks. The Castellero vineyard, with its Tortonian marl and sandy soils and vines aged between 30 and 40 years, imparts a signature finesse and minerality to the wine. On the nose, it reveals a reserved yet layered bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose, iron, and subtle earthy undertones. The palate is tightly knit and elegant, offering red fruit, chalky tannins, and a deep saline minerality that leads to a long, focused finish. Though still youthful, the 2021 vintage promises great aging potential, showing quiet power and precision that will continue to evolve beautifully over the coming decades.
