Good To Know: One of the largest and leading producers in Spain's Campo de Borja region, the winery was founded in 2002 between a partnership of Jorge Ordonez, an Andalucian wine producer, Australian winemaker, Chris Ringland and another leading winery in the Campo de Borja region, Bodegas Borsao. The winery's vineyards total approximately 92 hectares, spanning around the the town of Borja. The vines sit at altitudes that range between 1600-2600ft (490-790m) above sea level, with mostly stony soils composed of limestone, marl and slate.
The Alto Moncayo Veraton is a densely perfumed expression of Garnacha. Notes of dark cherries and black plum, dominate the nose followed by nuances of sweet spices and tobacco. The palate is round and fleshy. filled with exquisite notes of blueberries, cherry cola and milk chocolate. The finish is lengthy and ripe with magnificent, velvet like tannins.
Known for producing high quality wines exclusively from the Garnacha grape, Alto Moncayo is famed for producing these wines from vines as old 100 years or more. Grapes coming from these old vines are used for their Aquilon cuvée. The winery also produces wines from slightly younger average aged vines: the Alto Moncayo and the Veraton.
Alto Moncayo Veratón 2021 is a bold expression of Garnacha from Campo de Borja, sourced from 30–50-year-old vines rooted in stony, clay, and sandstone soils at high altitude. Aged 16 months in French and American oak, it reveals deep aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, balsamic notes, chocolate, and spice, with subtle mineral undertones. On the palate it is warm and expressive, offering rich fruit, lively acidity, firm yet polished tannins, and a long, satisfying finish. Highly rated by critics, this full-bodied red pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses, making it a standout choice for Garnacha enthusiasts.

Kat WynnTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great wine bar. They offer a wide selection of wine & the tapas are delicious. I didn't think I'd enjoy bread with olive oil as much as I did! Gambas, patè & croquettes were also delicious. We went at around 2pm and it was quiet - we just wanted something light and available. I believe they offer a variety of meats that has to be pre ordered? We would love to come back. Also, very good service. Peter LacTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Txanton offers a focused and authentic take on Spanish dining, grounded in its role as a jamonería and its clear respect for quality produce and tradition. At the heart of the menu is the jamón. The jamón tasting menu is particularly impressive, presenting six different varieties that span the full spectrum of cured ham, each one expertly prepared and deeply flavourful. The supporting dishes are equally strong, including excellent gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimps), a rich and comforting arroz cremoso con frutos de mar (seafood creamy rice), and bold chorizo picante a la brasa (spicy chorizo) with smoky depth. Dessert is distinctive and well judged, with the crema de queso (cream cheese) paired beautifully with PX wine, raisins, and a Tempranillo cookie. Service is relaxed and courteous, with staff providing thoughtful recommendations and attentive care throughout. The setting is welcoming and unpretentious, echoing the atmosphere of a traditional Spanish dining room - ideal for sharing plates, conversation, and good wine. Txanton succeeds in delivering a genuine Spanish experience, excelling in its jamón while offering a consistently well-executed menu.
