Good to Know: Laurent Ponsot is a fourth-generation Burgundian winemaker who, after over 35 years leading his family's famed domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis, established his own estate in 2015 in Gilly-lès-Cîteaux alongside his son Clément. His new venture blends estate-grown fruit with a high-end négociant model, sourcing from trusted growers across 26 appellations to craft a broad portfolio of village, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru wines. Guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention and terroir transparency, Ponsot avoids chemicals, new oak, and heavy sulfur, while embracing cutting-edge innovations like NFC capsules, oxygen-sensitive closures, and temperature-tracking shipping cases. Known for both his precision and integrity—famously helping expose the Rudy Kurniawan wine fraud—Laurent Ponsot today stands as a leader in marrying Burgundian tradition with forward-thinking technology to produce wines of remarkable purity, elegance, and authenticity.

With its deep red hue, Chambertin Clos de Bèze exudes a sense of intensity. The bouquet is equally captivating, evoking black fruits alongside delicate notes of rose, violet, and an alluring hint of liquorice. On the palate, this wine reveals its spiciness and exemplifies its full, opulent yet elegant and complex nature.

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze proves to be an ideal companion for a succulent rib of beef, as it beautifully balances its robustness with aromatic persistence.

Dating back to the year 640, this vineyard once belonged to the esteemed Burgundian abbey of Bèze. The responsibility of cultivating the vineyard was entrusted to Monsieur Bertin by the pious sisters. Interestingly, history has immortalized the vineyard manager, making it synonymous with Champ Bertin!

Laurent Ponsot’s Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru “Cuvée du Frêne” 2022 is a refined expression from one of Burgundy’s most revered vineyards. Bottled at 13.5%, it shows a vibrant purple hue and opens with a mineral-driven bouquet of ripe strawberry, red currant, forest floor, and subtle spice. The palate is medium-bodied but concentrated, featuring layers of red and blue fruit, lively acidity, fine tannins, and a long, elegant finish. With its balance of freshness and depth, this wine is enjoyable young but promises graceful evolution over the coming decades, pairing beautifully with rich meats like duck or game.
