Good to Know: Domaine Les Alexandrins is a Northern Rhône estate founded in 2009 by viticulturist Alexandre Caso and winemaker Guillaume Sorrel, later joined by Nicolas Jaboulet in 2015. Together, they focus on producing terroir-driven wines from 12 hectares of old-vine Syrah in Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph, some of which are over 70 years old. The vineyards are farmed sustainably, and the winemaking follows traditional methods—hand harvesting, cold maceration, gentle extraction, and ageing in used barrels—to preserve purity and elegance. Their wines, particularly the Crozes-Hermitage, are known for their finesse, vibrant fruit, and refined structure, reflecting the combined heritage and expertise of three Rhône wine families.

Maison Les Alexandrins Hermitage Rouge 2022 is a powerful and refined Syrah sourced from three classic Hermitage terroirs—granite, rolled pebbles, and chalky soils in plots like Grandes Vignes, Greffieux, and Murets. Harvested at night starting August 17 to maintain freshness, the grapes underwent a 28-day maceration with cold pre-fermentation and a mix of pump-overs and punch-downs to extract depth and complexity. The wine was then aged for 15 months in a combination of 30% new oak and one-year-old barrels, lending structure and finesse. Deep in color, it opens with an intense bouquet of candied black fruits, spice, smoke, and delicate oak nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied with vibrant freshness, firm yet polished tannins, and a long, elegant finish, making it a wine with impressive aging potential.

This wine pairs beautifully with a well-aged rib of beef or richly spiced dishes.
