Good to Know: Quinta dos Roques is a family-owned winery in Portugal’s Dão region, known for its pioneering work with native grape varieties and single-varietal wines. Since the 1980s, the estate has combined tradition with innovation, cultivating 35 hectares of vineyards and producing a diverse range of high-quality wines. With a focus on both red and white indigenous grapes, Quinta dos Roques crafts expressive wines that reflect the character of the region. Today, the winery exports globally and remains committed to meticulous, small-scale production that highlights the elegance and complexity of Dão wines.
Quinta dos Roques Colheita Red 2020 is a vibrant and well-crafted wine from Portugal’s Dão region, blending native grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Jaén, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão. This ruby-red wine offers expressive aromas of wild berries, dark fruits, and subtle herbal and spicy notes, complemented by gentle vanilla from partial oak aging. On the palate, it is fresh and full-bodied, with juicy fruit, firm tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, elegant finish. Aged briefly in French oak, it showcases both structure and finesse, making it an excellent match for grilled meats, game, or aged cheeses. With a drinking window that extends to 2028 or beyond, it’s a fine example of Dão’s potential and the consistent quality of Quinta dos Roques.

It was a weekday when we went there so it was not crowded. The interiors were nicely done and an ideal for place to have a good discussion. We love the caviar bar and their cocktail offerings. Food was above average although can still be improved. We had the pork ribs, spicy sausage, pork croquet, and fish triperones(?).
