The Domaine Bertagna Les Murgers is cultivated with great care, utilizing organic farming techniques that prioritize the soil's well-being. With a focus on ensuring exceptional quality, the vineyard management implements stringent measures such as green harvesting and de-budding to effectively control yields. Both in the field and at the winery, the grapes are meticulously handpicked and sorted, undergoing a rigorous selection process. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a meticulous aging period of 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with 50% of the barrels being newly sourced oak.

A warm, dry summer delivered small, uniformly ripe berries with thick skins, resulting in high fruit density and muscular tannin structures without losing essential natural acidity. Unlike typical warm vintages that can lean overly soft, 2015 achieved a rare, harmonious balance—combining opulent fruit maturity with bright, driving freshness. This allowed premier sites like Les Murgers, situated on the rocky mid-slopes right along the Vosne-Romanée border, to express both their signature mineral depth and remarkable long-term aging potential.

In the glass, the Domaine Bertagna Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers 2015 opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe black cherries, wild raspberries, and dark plums, complemented by elegant toasted oak, clove, and subtle forest-floor nuances. The palate is full-bodied, plush, and deeply structured, layering dense red and black pit fruits over fine-grained, firm tannins and a vibrant mineral core. Given its substantial depth and polished muscle, this Premier Cru is a spectacular match for elevated dining, pairing beautifully with roasted duck breast with a dark fruit reduction, herb-crusted lamb shanks, slow-braised pork belly, wild mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses like Comté and Époisses.

I first visited without notice to scout the venue for a business meeting, and they kindly showed me around. This time, I returned for a private dinner.

Communication via WhatsApp was seamless and friendly, allowing us to pre-order the Gambas al Ajillo and Cochinillo. The Gambas was cooked to perfection with amazing flavor, and the Cochinillo was a masterpiece—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside.
